About the Authors

Suzi de Gouveia

Suzi is an enthusiastic principal of a Catholic school in Christchurch, New Zealand. She has international teaching experience and has had the pleasure of teaching in a multi-cultural environment. With over 20 years of teaching, Suzi has developed a wealth of ideas and resources to best help children with their learning.

Jackie Andrews

Jackie Andrews is one of Essential Resources’ most successful authors, with many thousands of her books sold around the world. Her success is backed by her extensive teaching experience in both New Zealand and the United Kingdom. That experience, combined with her assiduous approach to professional development and passion for supporting teachers, drives her to create resources that improve student outcomes and inform best teaching practice. Her wider range of mathematics and English publications reflect the diversity of her expertise throughout primary school, as well as her ability to respond to the specific needs of particular age groups and ability levels. Complementing her work in the publication sector Jackie continues to enjoy her time in the classroom. Many schools and teachers also seek out her advice on effective resourcing and teaching practice.

Jude Callaghan

Jude Callaghan is an experienced, enthusiastic teacher with a passion for teaching and learning, and delivers teaching programmes that are innovative and exciting. Jude has embraced the Numeracy Development Programme wholeheartedly, and has joined the No Nonsense Number writing team to share her deep understanding and wealth of ideas.

Frances Adlam

Frances Adlam, a highly experienced and creative educator and therapist, has 20 years of teaching experience, is considered a “gifted teacher” by many, and for over 15 years has been involved in teaching the arts, creativity, multiple intelligences and working with creatively gifted children. She has lectured in New Zealand and been an adviser for teachers in the aforementioned areas. She is also a published children’s author, a dancer and a playwright. She currently works as an educator and therapist for children in her private practice, Out of the Box, where she specialises in working with children who are on the spectra of dyslexia, ADHD, Asperger’s syndrome and autism. Brigid Ladley

Brigid Ladley is an experienced, innovative primary school teacher who has taught extensively in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Currently at St Michael's Church School in Christchurch, she encourages her students to become creative, independent learners. She is passionate about her role as a classroom teacher and constantly seeks ways to develop her practice to enhance student achievement.

Marie Langley

Marie Langley’s experience in education includes 19 years teaching in secondary and area (Years 1 to 13) schools, 10 years as head of an English department, and seven years as a deputy principal. Her published works include a thesis for a Master of Teaching and Learning degree, magazine articles, short stories, poetry, picture books, a junior novel and numerous educational resource texts. She currently lives and works in Golden Bay in the top north-west corner of the South Island of New Zealand.

Selma Owbridge

An experienced and passionate teacher, Selma Owbridge has enjoyed teaching at all primary levels for the last 18 years, as well as working as a literacy leader/facilitator for an initiative with the New Zealand Ministry of Education. Selma is always thinking up new ideas and resources to help children learn. After completing a Computer and Business Administration Diploma, she wanted to use the computer knowledge she had gained to write inquiry learning books to support and teach children to use the computer skills they need to present all their wonderful ideas to an audience.
