Prefixes and suffixes

Short story + activities

This unit consists of a short text about killing a spider and associated activities that focus on prefixes and suffixes. In the first task students read notes about some common prefixes then match the given prefixes to some base words and write a definition for each new word they have made. Next, students complete a fill-the-gaps exercise using their newly formed words. Detailed notes are also provided on suffixes and they way they are formed e.g. -ful forms an adjective that indicates something or someone is filled with whatever the base word names. The final two tasks mirror the ones used to reinforce prefixes.
